Course Abstract

Advanced course to develop skills and knowledge in using market research to design a market development program.

Participants will learn how to gather information and analyse information resulting in effective design for market development programs.

Course Objectives

Articulate what a sub-sector market development approach is and why it's useful.
 
Manage a market development program design process effectively.
 
Identify an appropriate sub-sector to target for an enterprise promotion program using information gathered from market research.
 
Conduct a sub-sector analysis using market research to be able to identify opportunities and constraints in the sub-sector.
 
Identify appropriate solutions (BDS and others) to address constraints to reaching opportunities.
 
Conduct a BDS market assessment using market research to be able to identify opportunities and constraints to increase the quality and quantity of BDS for a specific target group.
 
Choose interventions that an organization can implement to develop a specific BDS market.
 
Demonstrate capacity to gather information efficiently and effectively.

This course will provide practical, hands-on skills and knowledge on how to conduct a sub-sector analysis, analyse the information, and identify opportunities and constraints, and identification of solutions.

Course Objectives

Provide a conceptual framework and skills to undertake the sub-sector analysis
 
Enable the participants to analyse sub-sectors in a professional manner by identifying constraints and designing the appropriate interventions for enterprise promotion
 
Build the organisations' capacity in tackling the issues in microenterprise promotion more effectively to achieve a wider impact by using their resources in a more efficient manner.

Course III: Market Development Approach to Enterprise Promotion: Design & Monitoring for Donors (EDA-SEEP module)
 

Course Abstract

This course will provide practical knowledge in how to evaluate proposals that include a market development approach to enterprise promotion and how to monitor the follow-on programs.

Course Objectives

Understand the market development approach to enterprise promotion and its relevance to their agencies' strategic objectives.
 
Judge the quality of program designs based on the market development approach to be able to make informed decisions about what programs would be best suited for their agencies' portfolios.
 
Monitor a market development program to ensure that the activity is being successfully implemented.

Basic course to develop skills and knowledge in how to identify business opportunities, how to analyse a business, and how to manage business growth.

Course Objectives

Discuss key principles of enterprise promotion to be more effective when working with entrepreneurs and their businesses.
 
Describe what an enterprise is and how it is different from a livelihood/income generating activity to be more informed and prepared to advise entrepreneurs in how to start, grow, and manage a business profitably.
 
Analyze how a business is operating to provide advice to entrepreneurs in how to operate an efficient and profitable enterprise.
 
Demonstrate their role as an advisor and communicate effectively so that entrepreneurs and their businesses can operate and/or grow successfully.

Course V: Advanced Tools for Enterprise Management and Basic Business Management (EDA module)
 

Course Abstract

Advanced course to develop skills and knowledge in feasibility studies, sub sector analysis and basic project management.

Course Objectives

Assess the feasibility of a business to determine if the business (opportunity) will be a successful enterprise.
 
Design and implement a subsector analysis to be able to identify opportunities and constraints within the subsector that can be developed.
 
Use new tools and systems to improve project efficiency and reach stated goals.
